Seashell Sleep
Emily Heinecke
My eyes feel like two saltwater pearls
Freshly pinched and placed beneath my eyelids.
Cold, slippery beads reluctantly roll from
This side to that.
They whisper sweet lullabies to
Each set of lashes,
Wishing both valves of their new shell beds
To lock lips — and seal sleep
With a love-lasting kiss.
