Fathoms

In the deep dark quiet the wreck

lays undisturbed. No one visits,

the bones have long since

been picked clean and dispersed

to who knows where.

There is no warmth there.

If a treasure is buried, it is too

lost to find beneath the suffocating silt

and the faint light from above

only reaches the borders

where the decaying sea grass waves

amidst the bleached coral.

Life was once full of sun

and the slap of waves, where fish

swam in the blue of the day.

But now the years have covered

you fathoms deep and only sharks

trawl looking for despair amongst

the remains of this lonely city.
