Sycamore

David R. DiSarro

He reached

the end of his rope

inside the family

garage, dangling

there, doors open

for the neighbors

to see. Shadows

soon screamed

up the drive-way,

others moving through

the manicured lawn,

over the stonewall.

The medics arrived,

lumbered

toward the house,

and eventually

the police came

to cut him down,

so he could be

covered and

carried across

the yard, carefully

avoiding the stump

where

a cancerous

sycamore

once stood.

David R. DiSarro is currently an Associate Professor of English at Endicott College in Beverly, MA. His work has previously appeared in The Rye Whiskey Review, Neologism Poetry Journal, Bending Genres, The Rome Review, The Hawaii Pacific Review, among others.
