Yoga Instructor Enters the Room Like a Rockstar

Lois Villemaire

Never early,

she arrives

wearing a shabby red baseball cap

long messy hair, black tights,

cutoff navy sweatshirt—

“London” in gold letters

Classic mini-Uggs.

We are silently seated

cross-legged on our mats

in rows multiplied by mirrors

lining the walls.

Without a smile

she tells us to breathe

scans our faces

checks the sign-in sheet

sets up the Bluetooth connection

for background music.

Class begins.
