A poem about when I found out I was trans
I was a man.
I watched the light move,
and I understood
the moon’s attraction
to the earth,
the moon being
by nature
the earth’s
Pull.

JUDGE'S REMARKS
“A poem about when I found out I was trans” is a feat of emotional concision. “I was a man,” the speaker states, and there we are hooked into the poem’s world as it translates identity into the movement of the moon. A beautiful, evocative, must-read piece of writing, and one of this year’s contest runners-up.
