Seeing Fades

If I stare through binoculars,

will I see the future

closer than it really is?

If I reverse the binoculars

and turn around,

will I see the past

farther behind than I thought?

If I stand still and quiet,

will anyone see

my shadow now?

Or will a cloudy day

fade my existence?

Squint Vision

When I squint my eyes,

rough water on the creek

looks like fallen tree bark

with darkened stones

appearing as knotholes.

When I squint my eyes,

Grandma looks like

a young girl

jabbing her hand

in the cookie jar

and pulling out

a sweet smile.
