Compensation

MoonLit Getaway Literary Journal is a Canadian non-profit, entirely run by volunteers. Although all positions are unpaid, active volunteers enjoy the following benefits:

  • a personal page on our website to share their biography and, if they like, showcase and promote their own creative works and projects (pending Executive Editor approval); 

  • one complimentary copy per year of our anthology, Harvest Moon (Print Edition); 

  • and free Full Moon Membership.

Contribution 

The time and work commitments for each position are negotiable and dependent on individual skills, availability, and interests. The tasks and responsibilities of each role are flexible and, to a certain extent, can be tailored to suit an incumbent's passions, career goals, and personal ambitions. The experience is meant to be fun and rewarding; it should never feel like a job.

BOOK REVIEW EDITOR (x2)

We are seeking two book review editors—one for poetry, and another for fiction. 

Position Description and Responsibilities 

  • evaluate traditionally published books, providing analysis and critiques, delving into content, style, and overall merit

  • write a minimum of one book review per month (500 to 1000 words each) for publication on our blog

  • at least 50% of books reviewed must be written by a Canadian author or poet

  • attend (1-hour) bi-weekly team meetings

Assets (none are mandatory)

  • a degree in a related field

  • relevant experience

  • traditionally published prose or poetry

  • active on social media

The ideal candidate is a passionate reader with a strong understanding of literary craft, excellent written communication skills, and an awareness of literary trends. Applicants may be asked to provide a sample of their writing. 

BLOG EDITOR

Position Description and Responsibilities

  • generate content for the MoonLit Getaway Blog

  • at least 50% of content must have a Canadian connection

  • obtain and coordinate interviews with authors, poets, and visual artists

  • write short articles and reviews

  • attend (1-hour) bi-weekly team meetings

Assets (none are mandatory)

  • a degree in a related field

  • relevant experience

  • traditionally published writing

  • active on social media

The ideal Blog Editor is a creative self-starter with a passion for developing compelling content. They love literature and are aware of literary trends. The ideal candidate should possess strong editing, proofreading, and written communication skills. Applicants may be asked to provide a sample of their writing. 

SOCIAL MEDIA EDITOR

Position Description and Responsibilities

  • generate compelling social media content, especially for Instagram and Facebook

  • assist the Executive Editor in the creation and use of templates to promote MoonLit Getaway content, services, products, and contests

  • at least 50% of content must have a Canadian connection

  • attend (1-hour) bi-weekly team meetings

Assets (none are mandatory)

  • a degree in a related field

  • relevant experience

  • very active on social media

The ideal Social Media Editor is a creative self-starter with a passion for developing compelling content. They have the technical proficiency required to effectively utilize various social media platforms. They possess strong editing, proofreading, and written communication skills. They love literature and are aware of literary trends.

ART EDITOR

Position Description and Responsibilities

  • review and select art submissions for publication

  • coordinate with artists selected for publication

  • conduct outreach to generate awareness and attract quality submissions

  • organize and coordinate contests

  • attend (1-hour) bi-weekly team meetings

 

Assets (none are mandatory)

  • a degree in a related field

  • relevant experience

  • a personal art portfolio

  • active on social media

The ideal candidate is a skilled and experienced artist with an online portfolio of their own work. They possess a blend of artistic intuition, technical proficiency, and sharp attention to detail. They are also familiar with current art trends.

NEWSLETTER EDITOR

Position Description and Responsibilities

  • curate our newsletter: MoonLit Monthly 

  • attend (1-hour) bi-weekly team meetings

Assets (none are mandatory)

  • relevant experience

  • traditionally published writing

  • active on social media
